Under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), local workforce development boards oversee American Job Centers and set training priorities.

  • Find your local board through your state labor department or CareerOneStop.
  • Read the local plan, which boards must publish for public comment, and see which occupations it prioritizes.
  • Ask how outcomes are measured: how many trainees finish, get jobs, and what those jobs pay.
  • Comment on whether the priorities match local jobs that actually pay a living wage.
