Many low-income homeowners, especially older adults, stay in their homes only if small repairs get done. Several established programs do this work.

  • Habitat for Humanity affiliates run home repair and building projects and take volunteers without construction experience.
  • Rebuilding Together and similar local groups focus on repairs for older and disabled homeowners.
  • The federal Weatherization Assistance Program, run through state agencies and community action agencies, pays for insulation and efficiency upgrades for eligible households. You can help neighbors apply.
  • Donate tools or materials, or help with intake calls and scheduling if physical work isn’t for you.
