Use Shareholder and Consumer Voice
- Vote your proxies. If you own shares directly, you get a proxy statement before the annual meeting; it’s on the SEC’s EDGAR too.
- Ask your retirement plan or fund how it votes on shareholder proposals; many funds publish their voting records.
- File complaints where they’re tracked: the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau takes complaints about financial products, and the FTC takes reports about fraud and business practices.
- Be specific and factual in any complaint or letter to a company.
