2020 election world series comparison
Let’s talk about a hypothetical situation.
Imagine that the world series is played between team a and team b. Team a wins the series and is declared the winner.
If you know nothing about baseball, let’s lay out a few facts.
- The winner of the series is declared by determining the winner of four games out of seven total.
- Total points scored in the series do not matter, it only matters that a team wins a game to count towards the four needed wins.
- Errors, fouls, and other things that occur in one game do not carry over to another game.
In our hypothetical situation, there are a few key notes
- Team B won games one, three, and five.
- Team B won 50 to 1 in the third game and Team A won 35 to 2 in the sixth game. All other games were won by a score of 1 to zero.
- There was a scoreboard error in one of the games that attributed points to the wrong team due to an error by the person in charge of the board hitting the wrong key. This was corrected moments later.
The end result was team A winning and this was reported by virtually every media outlet. A few outlets decided to report that Team B was the winner.
What would you think about someone insisting that Team B was the actual winner? Would you continue to trust the television channel reporting that Team B had won?
The presidential election of 2020 is an almost perfect mirror of our world series example.
